The Berlin Art Week 7th edition (26 - 30 September) is coming up!  Visitors will have the opportunity to see internationally recognized artists and large-scale exhibitions, with a main focus on the art fairs art berlin and Positions Berlin Art Fair at the former Tempelhof Airport. This year’s Berlin Art Week will also introduce a special focus on photography with the EMOP Opening Days of EMOP Berlin - European Month of Photography 2018.


第七届柏林艺术周将于9月26至30日举行!来自世界各地的知名艺术家将为观众带来精彩纷呈的展览,“艺术柏林”和“Positions柏林艺博会”都将在此期间拉开帷幕,这两场艺博会举行的场地曾为坦博尔霍夫机场。今年的柏林艺术周还将迎来“2018欧洲摄影月”的开幕。

Lucian Freud’s, Portrait on a White Cover (2002), sold for $29.8M at a Sotheby’s contemporary art sale in London. The nude painting depicts Sophie Lawrence, a Tate employee  Freud met on the occasion of a retrospective of his work at the Tate in 2002. Little else is known about the model aside from the story of her experience she shared ahead of the sale, “I wouldn’t have done it for anyone else, but he is one of the best artists who has ever lived. It was incredibly intimidating, but he made me feel at ease. He was very good at building a rapport with people. I was very fond of him.” Although this sale is among the top four auctions of Lucian Freud’s work, it was still below the staggering price of $56.2M for Benefits Supervisor Resting (1994) at Christie’s in New York in 2015.

The French Marseille MUCEM is presenting a unique exhibition of China’s most controversial artist, Ai Weiwei, Fan-Tan, from 20 June 2018 to 12 November 2018. Ai Wei Wei’s father, the famous poet Ai Qing, discovered the West for the first time in 1929. He arrived by ship at Marseille’s harbor, La Joliette, precisely where the MUCEM is located today. As a tribute to his father, Ai Wei Wei discusses the East West relations since the 19th century through his recurrent themes of original and copy; art and craft; destruction and conservation.


法国马赛欧洲和地中海文化博物馆于6月20日至11月12日举办展览“艾未未,番摊”。艾未未的父亲著名诗人艾青1929年乘船到达马赛的祖列特港,正是博物馆今天坐落的地方,这是艾父第一次来到西方。为了纪念父亲,艾未未的作品通过原件与复制、艺术和工艺、解构和对话等一系列主题探讨了19世纪至今东西方的关系。

The Paris Museum of Modern Art is presenting from 1 June 2018 to 6 January 2019, the first Zao Wou Ki major solo exhibition in 15 years, and since his death in 2013. The exhibition, Space is Silence, is a retrospective of the Chinese-French painter’s aesthetic journey, from the encounter with American abstract art to the symbiosis of Chinese and Western art.


赵无极“无言的空间”展览于今年6月1日至明年1月6日在巴黎市立现代艺术博物馆举行,这是近15年来,也是自2013年艺术家逝世以来的首个赵无极大型个展。展览回顾了他作为法籍华裔艺术家的美学历程,展示了他从初次接触美国抽象画到实现中西美学融汇贯通的全过程。

After years of legal battle, the Kunstmuseum Bern has finally reached an agreement with the Cézanne family over the famous painting, La Montagne Sainte-Victoire. The painting is one of the hundred artworks bequeathed by Cornelius Gurlitt to the Kunstmuseum Bern in Switzerland.  The Munich police discovered the impressive collection in 2012 at the octogenarian’s flat. It is believed that Mr. Gurlitt had inherited the 1500 artworks from his father, Hilderbrand Gurlitt,  an art dealer who purchased art in occupied France for Adolf Hitler’s Führermuseum project in Linz, Austria. Following the settlement, the Kunstmuseum Bern agreed to loan the painting three months a year to the Musée Granet in Aix-en-Provence, where Cézanne painted the mountain Sainte-Victoire.


经过漫长的法律斗争,伯尔尼美术馆与保罗•塞尚的家人就塞尚画作《圣维多利亚山》的权属问题终于达成一致意见。这幅作品是科尼利厄斯•古力特留给瑞士伯尔尼美术馆的遗赠。2012年慕尼黑警方在这古力特家中发现大量惊人的收藏。据说二战期间纳粹攻占巴黎后,科尼利厄斯•古力特的父亲希尔德布兰德•古力特曾受雇于希特勒,为奥地利林兹市的领袖博物馆购买艺术品;警方搜出的1500件艺术品就继承自这位纳粹艺术顾问。此次双方达成共识,现藏于伯尔尼美术馆的《圣维多利亚山》每年将有三个月的时间回到塞尚的故乡普罗旺斯,在格拉内博物馆展出。

The international efforts to put an end to elephant poaching as well as  ban ivory trade has left many public institutions and private collectors feeling conflicted. Indeed, what to do with the ivory antique collections that have been in museums and collections for decades? In June, the British Museum accepted a donation of 556 rare Chinese ivories from the Sir Victor Sassoon Chinese Ivories Trust. After the U.S.A and China, the British government also promised last April to introduce tough measures against ivory trade. However, there will be certain exceptions and conditions for the rarest artworks which must be at least 100 years old. The British Museum defended its decision to accept the collection by ensuring that it doesn’t in any circumstance, encourage the acquisition of new ivory made objects. However, in the framework of historic preservation, the collection’s Buddhist, Taoist, and Confucian devotional figurines; brush pots; fans; and vases, made between the 16th and early 20th centuries, needed to have a safe home.


诸多国家针对非法狩猎和买卖象牙出台禁令,公共和私人象牙藏品的处置陷入尴尬境地。上个月大英博物馆接受了来自维克多•沙逊爵士中国象牙信托的556件捐赠。随着中美两国象牙禁令的出台,今年4月,英国政府也宣布将对象牙交易采取更加强硬的措施,然而100年以上的稀有艺术品不列入禁令的管制范畴。大英博物馆解释道,接受捐赠并不是鼓励更多新制的象牙产品;而是出于保护历史文物的目的,希望能为这批来自16世纪到20世纪的人像雕塑、笔筒、扇子、花瓶提供一个安全的存放地。

Ahead of an exhibition at the London Lazinc gallery, three Bansky paintings were sold between £500,000 and £1.5m at a VIP sale. According to the Lazinc gallery owner, Steve Lazarides, paintings such as Show Me the Monet (2005) and Media at War (2006) could go as high as £5m. Bansky has gone from street art to becoming one of the most sought after contemporary artists at auctions.


近日,街头艺术家班克西作品在伦敦拉辛克画廊展出,其中三幅画作在展前的贵宾拍卖中成交价高达50万英镑至150万英镑之间。据画廊老板史蒂夫•拉扎里季斯说,《见识莫奈》(2005)和《媒体之战》(2006)的销售价格甚至可能达到500万英镑。班克西逐渐从不知名的街头艺术家变成了拍卖中最受追捧的当代艺术家之一。

On the top of London Trafalgar’s square fourth plinth stands a life-size representation of a Lamassu - winged bulls with human face. The Iraqi-American artist, Michael Rakowitz, used 10,000 date syrup tin cans to reproduce the thousand years old precious stone statue, the guardian of the ancient city of Nineveh, destroyed by ISIS. The artwork is part of the project, The invisible enemy should not exist, to reproduce the 7000 artifacts looted from the Bagdad National Museum since the 2003 war outbreak following with the U.S led coalition. As  Jewish Arabs, Mr. Rakowitz’s family fled Iraq in the late 50's and emigrated to the U.S.A. Perhaps, it is the irony behind the safe-haven turned invader in the war with Iraq that led Michael Rakowitz to undertake this monumental project. He is known as one of the most significant contemporary political artists of our times.
